Jack Merrill signs NLI to play water polo at Stanford

November 11, 2021 – CT Premier Water Polo Club congratulates Jack Merrill on his commitment to play water polo at Stanford University in the Fall.  The CT Premier captain, Old Greenwich resident and Rye Country Day School student signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Stanford on Wednesday night alongside Scott Schulte, Executive Director of CT Premier Water Polo Club, and his longtime coaches Jimmy Ramaley and Paul Ramaley.

“I’m super excited to play water polo at Stanford University. It’s got a long history as one of the best collegiate programs in the country, and it’s a place where I can thrive both as an athlete and as a student. Special thanks to CT Premier and Scott Schulte, Tony Azevedo and 6-8 Sports, Jimmy and Paul Ramaley, my first coaches, and my family for putting up with me bouncing a ball off the wall for years. There’s no way I could have accomplished this without them and countless others that pushed me to be a better player, student, and person every day.”

Scott Schulte added “CT Premier couldn’t be prouder to see Jack accepting admissions to Stanford University, one of the greatest schools in the country.  Jack epitomizes what every student- athlete, especially in the world of water polo, aspires to become when they start playing the sport.  Not only is Jack an amazing athlete and a great student. but he is also extremely hard working, a great leader and role model for all the players in our club, on the East Coast and in the country.  I have no doubt in my mind that the same success Jack has displayed up until now will just continue to grow at Stanford and beyond.  It’s an amazing accomplishment to be accepted to Stanford and we wish him all the best of luck going forward.”

Jack started water polo at the age of 12 in the Fairfield County Swim League with Coach Jimmy at Roxbury Club and soon joined CT Premier’s predecessor Chelsea Piers Water Polo.  He has played with them throughout his youth and stayed with the program when it re-emerged as CT Premier Water Polo during COVID.  Jack played at the 2019 UANA Pan American Youth Water Polo Championships for Team Canada and has also been selected to many Northeast Zone ODP teams.  Good luck Jack!  We can’t wait to see what you do next!
